General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for providing quality, efficient care to patients in the clinic, particularly with regards to application and removal of cast, splints, and braces. Also supports the clinic by obtaining proper paperwork and following insurance regulations for delivery and fitting of all DME devices.

Wage: $15.50/hr
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Applies casts & splints using plaster or synthetic materials. This involves adjusting, removing, repairing, bi-valving, wedging and windowing of casts
2. Applies, measures and adjusts off the shelf DME/Braces on patients and educates them on the effective use and care of the product.
3. Obtains proper signature and paperwork on the delivery of DME and enters data accurately into DME delivery software and into the clinic EMR system.
4. Instructs patient/family in the care of the cast, splint or brace as well as skin care. Reinforce the teaching of the medical information given by the physician regarding the specific injury, treatment plan, procedure and expected outcomes
5. Assists the physicians and extenders with closed reductions of fractures.
6. Removes sutures, staples, K-wires and hardware from patients before application of casts/splints.
7. Applies and removes dressings, assesses condition of the wound prior to further treatment. Consults with physicians for further orders when problems are identified.
8. Interacts with other departments (medical records, radiology, service coordination) to obtain the resources needed to assist in patient care.
9. Charting, documentation and maintaining accurate notes and records of patient care provided.
10. Maintains cast room equipment in a safe and fully functioning manner.
11. Helps verify receipt of all clinic deliveries through packing slips.
12. Reports to DME/Inventory Manager and Administrative Assistant items or safety concerns that need immediate attention.
13. Weekly monitoring of disposable sharps containers in every patient exam room and cast rooms, which includes changing and properly disposing of all contaminated sharps containers and documenting disposal.
14. Maintains medical supply inventory levels in the cast room for re-distribution throughout the clinic.
Experience: One year of job-related course work or previous experience preferred. Medical Assistant or Athletic Trainer certifications are well suited to this work environment.
